Service Description

Our at-home NMDOT approved Correspondence Course is for students under the age of 18 with extremely busy schedules in the State of New Mexico. Students who are home-schooled, live in a rural area, participate in sports, take AP classes, have a job, have transportation issues, are unable to attend a local driver education school, or have other extenuating circumstances can be approved to take this course. Students can earn both their permit and provisional licenses through our program. To be approved for our course parents or guardians can apply for the course by emailing the application to the University of New Mexico Transportation Safety Center. Approval usually takes 3-5 days. Once approval has been received students can immediately begin our course. We provide the book, answer sheets and a workbook for students to begin the course. The course is 19 chapters long. Students that complete the first 4 chapters and provide the answer sheets for the first 4 chapters and pass each quiz will be issued the NMDOT referral card. Once this document is received in the mail, students can schedule their written permit test at their local MVD. Once the permit is received students can begin driving with their parent or guardian. Students must log 50 hours of driving over the next 6 months (including 10 hours at night. Once students have completed all 19 chapters of quizzes, they must then pass the class final. The student must receive at least a 70% to pass the class. Once all material is returned and the student passes the class final, a certificate of completion will be mailed to the student. This certificate of completion will allow the student to make an appointment for their road test at their local MVD as long as the student has had their permit for at least 6 months and have logged their 50 hours of driving in their driving log. If the student passes their driving test they will receive their provisional license which will allow the student to begin driving on their own during the approved times.
